When a patient desires to have the shape, color, size, or length of a tooth improved, Dr. Karey may recommend veneers in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Veneers are thin shells made of tooth-colored materials and placed over the front surface of your teeth to improve their appearance. Our dentists may use veneers to repair the following dental issues:
- Discolored teeth
- Worn-down teeth
- Chipped, broken, or cracked teeth
- Slightly crooked or crowded teeth
- Misshaped teeth
- Gaps between teeth
Veneers are made from either porcelain or resin composite materials. Porcelain resists stain and reflects light like your natural teeth better than resin. Resin veneers are thinner, so they do not require as much tooth enamel removal before placement.
Our dentists will remove a small amount of tooth enamel to allow room for the veneer in your smile. Impressions will then be made of the tooth so a veneer can be constructed. It usually takes one to two weeks for a veneer to be constructed. When the veneer is ready, our dentists will place it in your mouth to check its fit and color. Any alterations are made as necessary. The tooth will be cleaned, polished, and roughened to allow for a strong bonding process. A special cement and a curing light are used to bond the veneer to your tooth.
