Dr. Karey recommends that you have a teeth cleaning in Ann Arbor, Michigan, at least every six months. This appointment includes a professional teeth cleaning, fluoride, a dental exam, and X-rays.
Our hygienist will start off the appointment by cleaning all of the plaque and tartar from your teeth using a metal tool. The hygienist will then floss your teeth, polish them, and apply fluoride. Fluoride is a mineral that helps prevent tooth decay by strengthening your tooth enamel. Our dentists will then perform a dental exam. They will examine all of your teeth and gums for signs of decay, periodontal disease, and other dental health problems. Sometimes, our dentists will decide to take X-rays. This will help them to locate and diagnose problems that are hard to see with the naked eye. Our office uses digital X-rays, which use less radiation than traditional X-rays.
We urge you to contact our office immediately if you experience dental pain or a dental emergency. The following issues need to be checked out by our dentists:
- Tooth sensitivity to hot and cold
- Gums that bleed easily when you brush and floss
- Red, tender, and swollen gums
- Chipped, cracked, or broken teeth
- A loose permanent tooth
- The loss of a permanent tooth
- Objects caught between teeth
