If you have a toothache in Ann Arbor, Michigan, you’re most likely extremely annoyed and troubled. Toothaches can be very uncomfortable and painful. So, our Kimberlee J. Karey, DDS dental team would like to help you so you can find the relief and comfort you’re looking for. For the best results possible, we encourage you to follow these steps:
First, thoroughly rinse your mouth with warm water. It’s even better to rinse with saltwater to draw out the infection and reduce the swelling. Second, grab some floss and clean between each tooth. Your toothache might be caused by a stuck piece of food that is irritating the tooth and gums. Third, reduce any swelling by placing an ice pack outside of the tender area. This can reduce swelling and relieve pain. Fourth, take over-the-counter pain medication if needed. But, whatever you do, do not place the medication directly on the gums near the aching tooth. Doing so can burn the gum tissue and cause harm. Fifth, if your toothache still does not go away after two days of using these tips, call our office and schedule an appointment with your dentist at your earliest convenience. You could be suffering from a more serious dental issue, like tooth decay, that needs to be solved as soon as possible.
