What Does It Take to Restore a Tooth With a Dental Crown?

Posted .

Dental crowns are strong, reliable, and attractive dental restorations that can give you the healthy and beautiful teeth you need. They are tooth-shaped caps that replace your tooth enamel and restore your tooth’s function. Fortunately, the process involved in placing a dental crown is simple, easy, and painless. Dr. Kimberlee J. Karey is happy to provide treatment details.

When you visit us, your dentist will examine the tooth and take a series of X-rays to determine the health of your tooth and entire mouth. When you’re ready, she will numb the tooth and the surrounding area to help you feel comfortable during your appointment.

Then, she will remove the majority of the tooth’s enamel to make room for the tooth-shaped cap. After the tooth is adjusted, she will make an impression and will send that impression to a dental lab where your new crown will be made just for you. While your new crown is being made, Dr. Karey will cover your abutment with a temporary crown.

Finally, when your dental crown is ready and sent back to our office, you will visit us again to get it placed. During this appointment, your dentist will check the crown to make sure it exceeds expectations. Then, she will cement the restoration over your tooth.
